Over the next five years, 65% of enterprises will adopt a mobile device management (MDM) solution, according to Gartner, a research firm. With the increased functionality of smartphones, and the increasing popularity of tablets, much of the network traffic and corporate data that was once the primary domain of enterprise PCs is now being shifted to mobile devices. "The era of the PC has ended. Employees are becoming more mobile and looking for ways to still be connected wherever work needs to be done," said Phil Redman, research vice president at Gartner. Apple is set to unveil a smaller version of its tablet iPad --popularly being called iPad Mini -- in October, according to a report in Fortune. The article by Philip Elmer-DeWitt cites a 'major Apple investor' as its source. According to the report, press invites to the iPad Mini launch event would go out on October 10 for the event scheduled for October 17. The device is expected to go on sale on November 2. Analysts believe the time to be right for the device to make it for the Christmas sales in the US. Earlier Bloomberg reported that Apple will use screens from AU Optronics and LG Display for a smaller version of the iPad to be released in October. The device is rumoured to measure 7.85 inches diagonally. Current iPads measure 9.7 inches. Smaller iPad is expected to help Apple fend off competion from the smaller and cheaper tablets from companies like Amazon Inc.

Apple is beefing up its security prowess with the purchase of AuthenTec, a small security company focused on fingerprint sensors and identity management. On Friday, AuthenTec indicated in an 8-K regulatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, that they agreed to be acquired by Apple for $356 million. Apple’s $8-a-share offer is a 58 percent premium over the stock’s Thursday closing price of $5.07. Why would Apple want AuthenTec?  ZDNet’s Larry Dignan provided two reasons. First, Apple is increasingly focused on iPhones and iPads being adopted in the enterprise. Improving the security of their devices is seen as key to this process. Let’s take our existing Clock App we created during our previous tutorials and turn it into a stopwatch. It will look similar to the standard iPhone Clock implementation. Open the ViewController.xib file and move rgw label closer to the top to make a little room for a Start/Stop button at the bottom. Now drag a new button over, change the text to “START”, and size it so it is about the width of the label.
